The Sunshine Coast offers an incredible variety of activities for all ages, and all interests. Following is short selection of wonderful places to visit and explore within a short distance from Mitta Glen Guest House.
Mount Coolum National Park
Mount Coolum’s impressive dome-shape rises 208m above the Sunshine Coast lowlands and provides spectacular 360 degree views of the coast and hinterland. The summit supports montane heath—a plant community, with rare and threatened species, that only grows at two locations on the Sunshine Coast. From the mountain, the park extends south and west across flat lowlands protecting wallum, paperbark wetlands, open eucalypt forest and rainforest remnants—plant communities that have largely disappeared from this part of the Sunshine Coast. For more information visit Mount Coolum National Park
Kondililla Falls and the Kondalilla National Park
Just behind the Sunshine Coast, in the scenic Blackall Range, Kondalilla National Park is a cool mountain retreat. The park is named after the spectacular Kondalilla Falls, where Skene Creek drops 90m into a rainforest valley. Kondalilla, an Aboriginal word meaning ‘rushing waters’, describes this park’s waterfall during the summer wet season.
Above the falls, tall open eucalypt forest mingles with rainforest species in wetter areas. A drier forest grows on the western escarpment, featuring casuarinas with a grass tree understorey. Subtropical rainforest grows below the escarpment, where soil and aspect is suitable, and riparian rainforest lines the creek. For more information visit Kondalilla National Park
